Dart Ferries Construction and Assembly

The design and build process for Dart Ferries is centred around developing efficient composite construction methods to reduce costs and speed up the construction process.

Efficient & Cost-Effective Construction

Composite Construction: Our design and build process focuses on developing efficient composite construction methods to reduce costs and speed up production.

Modular Construction: We use modular techniques to enhance efficiency and shorten build time, ensuring faster project completion.

Advanced Manufacturing: By applying shipbuilding and aerospace manufacturing methods, we optimize construction, making high-quality vessels more affordable.

Multi-Site Production: Similar to major shipyards and aircraft manufacturers, we construct components at different sites and then bring them together for assembly at one large facility.

Key aspects to meeting our construction goals:

1. End-to-End Design

By considering each stage of the construction process early in the design phase, we minimise delays and reduce the need for changes, ensuring an efficient and smooth project from start to finish.

2. Use of Moulds

With pre-constructed moulds, we accelerate the hull construction process, allowing for faster vessel production and improved quality.

3. Flat Panel Construction

We utilize flat panel construction for large parts of the vessel, such as the wingdeck and cabin sides, allowing for efficient manufacturing and faster assembly.

4. Multi-Site Construction

By adopting multi-site construction, we streamline the build process, allowing different sections of the vessel to be worked on simultaneously, improving efficiency and reducing overall construction time.

Over 30 companies and more than 200 people are involved in the design, development, component supply and construction for Dart Ferries. The primary component manufacturing locations are in Waipapa, (near Kerikeri) and Whangarei. The final assembly facility where the vessels are completed is located in Whangarei which has haul-out facilities easily capable of handling the Dart Ferries range of vessels.
