11.5-metre powercat launched in 2010 without foils. Foils were fitted in 2017 and provided a 15% reduction in fuel use while also improving rough water performance and passenger comfort.
Team New Zealand Design Works will supply computational fluid dynamics modelling of the existing Dart Ferry hulls and use this information to identify optimum foil locations, foil shapes and foil sizes.
